Ecommerce major Amazon India on Monday announced that its quick commerce arm Amazon Now will expand to 100 cities, backed by over 1,000 micro-fulfillment centres.

This comes a few days after the company announced a Rs 2,800 crore investment to strengthen its infrastructure and operations across the country as part of a previously announced commitment to invest $35 billion by 2030.

Last week, Amazon had said it would allocate a part of the new investment to double Amazon Now’s footprint.

Currently, the company's quick commerce services are operational in Delhi NCR, Mumbai and Bengaluru, with 300 micro fulfillment centres.

Amazon plans to expand it to various metros and non-metro cities, including Pune, Hyderabad, Chennai, Kolkata, Jaipur, Lucknow, Kanpur, Chandigarh, Ahmedabad, Meerut, Mysuru, Panipat, Kochi, Amritsar, Mangaluru and Visakhapatnam.

“Customers continue to enjoy Amazon Now... Encouraged by this success, we have further accelerated our expansion plans and will scale Amazon Now to 100 cities, fueled by a network of more than 1,000 micro-fulfillment centres,” said Harsh Goyal, vice president – everyday essentials, Amazon India.

In December, Amazon’s senior VP for emerging markets, Amit Agarwal, told ET that the Jeff Bezos-founded ecommerce and tech giant has seen strong traction in cities where its quick commerce service has been launched.

Amazon Now competes with Eternal-owned Blinkit, Swiggy's Instamart, and IPO-bound Zepto.
