BENGALURU: The Personal Data Protection (PDP) Bill should not seek to regulate non-personal data, according to a government-constituted panel on the non-personal data framework which is headed by Infosys cofounder S (Kris) Gopalakrishnan.

The panel submitted a second draft for public comments on the non-personal data-sharing framework, based on the feedback it received earlier in the year. "In order to ensure that the two frameworks are mutually exclusive yet work harmoniously with each other it would be advisable to delete these sections from the PDP Bill and ensure that they are appropriately covered under the NPD framework," the draft, released on Wednesday, said. The panel said in the report that it would be appropriate to amend the provisions of the PDP Bill to ensure that it does not regulate non-personal data.
