People aren’t just travelling on Airbnb, they’re now living on Airbnb: CEO Brian Chesky

New Delhi: The Covid-19 pandemic has changed most things we know, but the one thing it has changed the most is how we travel. According to Airbnb’s cofounder and chief executive Brian Chesky, the new trends born from the pandemic are likely to stay.

In a Twitter thread Tuesday, Chesky said that "we're on the verge of a revolution in travel".



"People aren’t just travelling on Airbnb, they’re now living on Airbnb," he said.

Working from home has spurred flexibility in terms of where and how people live or how long they stay in one place.

"Technologies like Zoom make it possible to work from home. Airbnb makes it possible to work from any home. And this newfound flexibility is bringing about a revolution in how we travel because for the first time ever, millions of people can now travel anytime, anywhere for any length, and even live anywhere on Airbnb," he said.

He believes that this trend toward more flexibility will only accelerate.

"In recent months, some of the world's largest companies—Procter & Gamble, Amazon, Ford, PricewaterhouseCoopers—have announced increased flexibility for employees to work remotely. And we expect many more companies to follow their lead," he said in the Twitter thread.

He says that because people don't have to be in the office at specific times, they have more flexibility on when they can travel. "Mondays and Tuesdays are currently our highest growing days of the week to travel," he said.

He said the increased popularity of long-term stays is turning travelling into living.

Airbnb last week reported its strongest quarter ever in the third quarter of 2021, with revenue topping $2.2 billion. Its net income surged 280% to $834 million on a y-o-y basis.
