Glance hits 140 million active users in Q1: Counterpoint Research

Inmobi’s lockscreen content platform Glance had 140 million active users in India in the first quarter of 2021, with 70% of newly launched smartphones in the sub-$250 segment coming pre-installed with the service, according to market tracker Counterpoint Research.

The researcher added that Glance is now installed on close to quarter of all smartphones in the country, thanks to the company’s model of working with OEMs to pre-install the service on devices. Counterpoint added that Glance is on some of the best selling devices in India.

“Hardware features are no longer differentiators and most original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) are looking at software and overall user experience to differentiate their products. In this play of feature-based selling points, a platform like Glance has a crucial role,” said Pavel Naiya, senior research analyst at Counterpoint Research.


He added that India’s smartphone market is maturing and is moving away from sub-$100 entry level devices to the $100-300 segment.

Counterpoint said that Glance has an especially strong presence in the sub-$250 smartphone market, which makes up 80% of sales in India, with 46% of its active users having devices in the $150-250 price bracket. Users with smartphones priced between $100-150 make up 21% of the service’s usersbase in India.

“Glance is a platform that bridges the gap between new content and millions of smartphone users with its intuitive user interface,” said Arushi Chawla, research analyst at Counterpoint. “It offers content in eight regional languages, which is significant value addition in a linguistically and culturally diverse nation like India."
