Nitin Savara, Zomato’s deputy chief financial officer ( CFO), has resigned, the company said on Wednesday in a disclosure to stock exchanges.

Savara joined Zomato in November last year from Ernst & Young, a multinational professional services firm, where he was a partner. During his stint at Zomato, Savara played an important role in the acquisition of quick commerce startup Blinkit for Rs 4,447 crore.

In the disclosure, the company said that Savara was not designated as key managerial personnel.

Savara is exiting Zomato to start his own venture.

“Nitin Savara loves Zomato, and as much as I and Akshant (Goyal - CFO), tried to retain him with us for the last few weeks it didn’t work because Nitin is very excited about what he wants to build and there’s no one stopping him:).. Also, I am the last person to stop anyone from starting up on their own. We need more entrepreneurs in our country, not less,” CEO Deepdiner Goyal announced to his employees on the company’s Slack channel, a screenshot of which was posted in the disclosure.

Zomato said that the disclosure would not qualify as ‘material information,’ and the company was making it voluntarily.
