Eternal-owned Zomato has collaborated with HDFC Pension to launch NPS Platform Workers Model for its delivery partners, aimed at providing them retirement security under the National Pension System (NPS).

The programme allows Zomato’s gig workers to build long-term financial security through lump sum and pension benefits at retirement, the food delivery aggregator said in a statement. It offers flexibility for small, regular contributions and portability of benefits as workers change jobs, it added.

Zomato said more than 30,000 of its delivery partners have already generated their Permanent Retirement Account Numbers (PRANs) within 72 hours of integration. The platform plans to equip more than 1 lakh partners with NPS retirement accounts in 2025.

According to a 2022 NITI Aayog report, the number of platform workers in India is projected to reach 23.5 million by March 2030, though retirement savings among them remain negligible due to lack of awareness and access.

“The ‘NPS Platform Workers Model’ not only enables gig workers to plan for retirement but also brings a larger section of the population under long-term financial security,” said Sriram Iyer, managing director and chief executive of HDFC Pension.

“With HDFC Pension, we’re taking a step beyond daily livelihood—towards long-term financial security and assurance in retirement,” said Zomato CEO Aditya Mangla.
