Bengaluru: Payments and financial services company Paytm said on Sunday that a motor vehicle incident which led to the filing of a police case against founder Vijay Shekhar Sharma was “minor”, and that media reports on his arrest were “exaggerated”.

A first information report was filed against Sharma for alleged rash driving.

“A complaint was filed in connection with an alleged minor motor vehicle incident. There was no harm caused to any person or property in the said incident. Media reports claiming the nature of the arrest are exaggerated, as even the complaint against the vehicle was for a minor offense under a bailable provision of law and requisite legal formalities were completed on the same day,” a Paytm spokesperson said in reply to ET’s queries on the matter.

Citing the FIR, the Indian Express reported that an SUV allegedly driven by Sharma on February 22 had hit the vehicle of South Delhi deputy commissioner of police Benita Mary Jaiker on the capital’s Aurobindo Marg. A constable posted with Jaiker filed the complaint.

After the incident, the police had traced down the vehicle, linking it to Sharma, the report said.
