OnePlus co-founder Carl Pei’s new venture is called ‘Nothing’

Bengaluru: OnePlus co-founder Carl Pei has named his new venture ‘Nothing’.

The London-based consumer technology startup plans to release its first set of smart devices in the first half of 2021. The specific details on devices is a bit sparse at the moment, although Pei recently told Wired that they will launch audio-related products later this year.

“Nothing’s mission is to remove barriers between people and technology to create a seamless digital future. We believe that the best technology is beautiful, yet natural and intuitive to use. When sufficiently advanced, it should fade into the background and feel like nothing" Pei said in a statement.



The Chinese-born Swedish entrepreneur Pei, who quit OnePlus in a surprise move in October last year, has attracted $7 million in seed financing from a clutch of prominent investors including iPod inventor Tony Fadell, Twitch cofounder Kevin Lin, Reddit chief executive Steve Huffman, PCH founder and chief executive Liam Casey, prominent YouTuber Casey Neistat, Product Hunt chief executive Josh Buckley, and Web Summit founder Paddy Cosgrave. Cred founder Kunal Shah also backed the firm last week.

“Consumer tech is a tidal wave of limitless potential. Nothing will be the brand at the forefront and I can't wait for the world to experience its products,” Neistat said.
