Karnataka is working on a fintech startup program aimed at uniting the government, venture capital and the banking sector to offer essential funding and mentorship support, IT/BT Minister Priyank Kharge said on Wednesday.

The government also has plans to establish a centre of excellence (CoE) for fintech, dedicated to nurturing talent, leadership, entrepreneurship and fostering innovation, the minister said, speaking at the three-day Global Fintech Fest (GFF 2023) that began at the Jio World Trade Centre in Mumbai on Tuesday.

The event is organised by the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI), the Payments Council of India (PCI), and the Fintech Convergence Council (FCC).

Among the 23 fintech unicorns, Bengaluru alone was home to 12 fintech unicorns, Kharge said.

"Our state boasts of 1300 active fintech startups and we are actively working on creating a Fintech Regulatory Support framework to encourage innovation and industry growth," the minister said.
