From Goa's shores to global glory: Paul John is now India’s most celebrated whisky
Paul John's journey from a home-grown distillery to Asia's most awarded single malt proves that exceptional craftsmanship knows no borders.

All in all, Paul John has been recognized with awards at major global competitions worldwide, including eight of the most prestigious. The International Wine & Spirit Competition alone has recognised the brand with 53 awards, while the San Francisco World Spirits Competition contributed 20 honours between 2017 and 2022. These are validations from panels comprising Masters of Wine, renowned distillers, and spirits experts who taste blind and judge without prejudice.

The limited editions aren’t far behind either. Mithuna by Paul John earned recognition as the Third Finest Whisky in the World by Whisky Bible, while Kanya by Paul John claimed the title of Asia's Best Whisky from the same publication. True to its name, the Whisky Bible is the most influential guide for whisky lovers the world over, publishing reviews that have made some brands famous overnight.
But perhaps most telling is the recognition beyond individual bottles. Chairman Paul P John was named World Whisky Ambassador of the Year by Icons of Whisky as far back as 2017. He’s also the first Indian to be inducted into the World Whisky Awards’ Hall of Fame (2022). And this year, the Paul John Distillery & Visitor Centre earned the Global Attraction of the Year award, placing the visitor centre on par with popular distilleries across the world, cementing its status as a must-visit for whisky enthusiasts.

What sets Paul John apart isn't just the tropical maturation or the six-row barley sourced from across the expanses of Rajasthan and Haryana to the foothills of the Himalayas. It's the understanding that world-class whisky demands world-class standards at every step. From the copper pot stills crafted in India to the American oak barrels that impart distinctive vanilla notes, each element serves the singular purpose of creating liquid excellence.
The trajectory seems unstoppable. As Asia's spirits market continues expanding and global palates become more adventurous, Paul John stands perfectly positioned. The brand has conquered the most demanding competitions in the west. Now it's establishing dominance in contests closer to home, such as the Singapore World Spirits Competition, where it earned two awards in 2024.
For an industry steeped in centuries-old traditions and geographic prejudices, Paul John's success shows that it is earned one barrel at a time, one competition at a time, one recognition at a time. From Goa's homegrown distillery to the world's most prestigious awards ceremonies, Paul John hasn't just put Indian whisky on the map: it's redrawn the map entirely.
