Subrata Mitra, partner at Accel, said everybody has a part to play in corporate governance issues that have cropped up in the startup ecosystem over the past few years.

"I don't want to take the entirety of the blame, but everyone has a part to play in it. If you are pushing the founders beyond a reasonable limit, they will find some shortcuts, that's human nature," Mitra said during a panel discussion at the ET Startup Awards 2024.

The panel saw a discussion among Peyush Bansal, cofounder and CEO Lenskart and Zepto cofounder and CEO Aadit Palicha, hosted by this year’s jury chair, Infosys cofounder and chairman Nandan Nilekani.

Mitra emphasised the role of investors in addressing the issue, adding that there are times when investors have no clue on the inherent risks that can be overlooked till it becomes too late. “Investors aware of such cases should act very rapidly and as long as all investors are doing at the earnest, we can have a much better ecosystem”, he said.
