Bengaluru startup launches AI-powered bin to improve waste segregation
Per the startup AlSmart Bin, the AI-enabled waste-segregating bin can identify and sort garbage with up to 95% accuracy. It was unveiled at the Bengaluru Tech Summit 2025 on Wednesday.

Showcased at the Bengaluru Tech Summit 2025 on Wednesday, the AI-enabled bin consists of six sections. Users need to hold the item they wish to discard in front of the machine. The AI sensor detects whether the waste is plastic, a glass bottle, or organic material and automatically opens the relevant compartment. All the user has to do is drop the item inside.
The smart bin, called BinPro, will be placed in multiple locations. “We are launching BinPro in the market with patent protection. In the first phase, we aim to install it at airports, railway stations, and shopping malls. The 400-litre BinPro will be priced between Rs 40,000 and Rs 1.5 lakh,” said Anupam Mahajan, the company’s founder.
The startup is also developing what it claims could be the world’s first fully automated mixed, dry-waste segregation machine, integrating AI imaging, robotics, and conveyor-based sorting. A patent for the system is currently in process.
