Bangalore Bioinnovation Centre (BBC) has signed a memorandum of understanding with the National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories (NABL) to enable quicker global validation of startup-led research.

The pact, signed by BBC managing director Mohamed Adil and NABL chief executive Ramanand N Shukla in the presence of Karnataka IT/BT secretary Manjula N, will allow startups to access NABL accreditation processes in a simplified and time-bound manner, the IT/BT department said in a statement.

“This partnership will significantly support our efforts to build a global identity in the life sciences sector,” Manjula said in the statement. She added that BBC has backed over 500 projects, including global startups and patented innovations, and mentioned the centre’s international expansion, including its presence at La Trobe University in Melbourne, to support market access and clinical research.

Shukla said the collaboration would help startups tap global markets by improving trust, quality standards, and access to accreditation frameworks, while also strengthening training and laboratory practices.

The MoU would provide structured training, certification pathways, and technical guidance aligned with global standards such as ISO/IEC 17025, enabling startups, MSMEs, and academic institutions to scale with credible and validated research outputs, Adil said.

Officials from the office of the principal scientific adviser and the Ministry of Education were also present for the signing.
