Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has approved the setting up of a dedicated Quantum and AI University campus in Amaravati by NIELIT.

Amaravati is set to get India’s first dedicated university campus for quantum technologies and artificial intelligence, with the Andhra Pradesh government approving a Rs 730.7 crore NIELIT campus as Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu steps up efforts to build a deep-tech and quantum computing ecosystem in the state.

The 8.5-acre campus will be funded through a grant from the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY). Classes are expected to begin from September 2026 at a temporary facility at Acharya Nagarjuna University in Guntur, before shifting to the permanent Amaravati campus. Courses will cover quantum computing and communication, AI and machine learning, semiconductor fabrication, chip design, VLSI, embedded systems and high-performance computing.

The university will also house a 1.25 lakh sq ft Quantum Research, Innovation & Incubation Block with quantum computing and photonics facilities, cleanroom and nano-fabrication infrastructure, semiconductor and chip-design labs, data centres and startup incubation spaces.

The project aims to train around 8,250 learners over five years, including 1,650 through degree programmes and 6,600 through skilling and certification programmes.

This is the latest piece in Naidu’s Amaravati Quantum Valley push. In April, the state launched what it described as India’s first indigenously developed, open-access quantum computer test beds — Amaravati 1S and 1Q — at SRM University and Medha Towers in Gannavaram. The state has said it wants Amaravati to rank among the world’s top five quantum hubs by 2030.
