Wipro kicks off industry-academia interface
Wipro Technologies has initiated an industry-academia interface to train engineering faculty in adapting modern teaching techniques and to keep themselves abreast with the requirements of the corporate world.
Talking to reporters on Tuesday, Wipro Limited Executive Vice President, Human Resources, Pratik Kumar said the company had arranged for a meeting of over 90 Vice-Chancellors and other heads of institutions of colleges from various states to work out on a strategy to "hone up" college faculty in their teaching skills.
"Wipro has been conducting a lot of campus interviews in several states. But in the process, we notice the quality of human resources supply does not match the industry standards. Thus, we are chalking out a plan to hone up the faculty instead, so that we address the problem in its bud," he said.
"The problem is upstream and the need is to provide the right kind of teaching faculty to today's students," he said.
Wipro is also talking with AICTE to see if it can involve itself in a more centralised manner in this training process. These talks are at a preliminary stage, he said.
The company revealed ambitious plans for Chennai to sustain its aggressive hiring, increasing retention and leverage new workforce.
The acquisition of a financial services space, plans for a Sholinganallur facility on 102 acres of land and another facility at Mahindra city on 95 acres of land and recruitment of 4000 people in the next one year are just a few of Wipro's ideas to concentrate on Chennai's development centre, he said.
