Wipro eyes acquisitions in healthcare, telecom, energy

Wipro will take onboard 7,500 people in the current quarter, offer letters for which it had sent out in the previous two quarters. TCS to hire 30,000 employees

MUMBAI: IT major, Wipro Ltd is looking at acquisitions in the telecom, healthcare and energy utilities segments in the near future, a senior company official said.

"We are looking out for acquisitions in niche segments like telecom, healthcare and energy utilities in the coming years. We will be growing through both organic and inorganic routes," Wipro Ltd's Joint CEO-IT Business, Girish Paranjpe, told reporters on the sidelines of the NASSCOM summit here. (Watch)

He, however, did not specify the timeframe, the amount earmarked or the geographies it was eyeing for acquisitions.

The Bangalore-based IT company is open to acquiring smaller firms with strong product offerings, which would help fill in the gaps in its services.

Last year, Wipro acquired the consumer products and lighting business of Yardley and Unza Holdings, which manufactures personal care and household care products.

The Azim Premji-led company has identified four cities in India to set up IT campuses in, Paranjpe said, without giving details.
