THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A final decision on the proposed Smart City IT infrastructure project will be known next week, Kerala chief minister V.S. Achuthanandan said here on Friday. He refused to give more details regarding the matter.
The project, to be implemented by the Dubai Internet City in partnership with the state government in Kochi, has been under a cloud since the Left Democratic Front government came to power.
The LDF government had found some of the conditions agreed to by the previous Congress-led United Democratic Front government to be unfavourable for the state. The most important of these was the plan to hand over the existing Infopark in Kochi to the Dubai Internet City as part of the Smart City deal.
While in opposition, the LDF had termed the Smart City project as little more than a real estate deal.
