MUMBAI: Election Commission's Voter ID Card Scheme, facilitated by Vakrangee Softwares Ltd, has commenced in Borivali East, a city suburb, and will continue till January 13.

Vakrangee has already completed the work successfully in 53 assemblies in Mumbai city and suburbs since the work commenced in February 2007. The e-governance company has already ensured that 35 lakh voters have got their Voter I-Card as of December 25. The work in the remaining six assemblies is expected to be completed by February 2008.

"In 10 months, we have covered 53 assemblies and also some districts of Thane, Dhule, Nashik and Ahmednagar. The Voter's ID Card Scheme will help to be a key identity proof for the citizens and also prevent bogus voting.

Vakrangee has provided strong back-end support for the government officials. In certain assemblies, we have set up a permanent desk so that the voters can collect their ID Card at any convenient time," said Neeraj Tandon, manager, Vakrangee Softwares.
