Pune: Information technology company Tech Mahindra on Thursday said it won a smart city project worth Rs 500 crore from the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC).

Through this project, the largest smart city contract won by the company, the Mahindra Group subsidiary will engage with more than 15 lakh citizens of the PCMC by enabling technology-led transformation to convert it into a smart and sustainable city.

The project will be executed over a period of one year for implementation, followed by operations and maintenance for five years, the Pune-based company said. It has been budgeted under the Prime Minister’s Smart Cities mission.


“Through this engagement with Tech Mahindra consortium, we aim to fulfil our vision of transforming Pimpri Chinchwad with the use of cutting-edge technologies,” PCMC municipal commissioner Shravan Hardikar said.

As part of this project, the company will provide a sustainable ICT (information and communication technology) infrastructure, comprising smart, technological solutions including city network, smart water, smart parking and CCTV surveillance and integrated control and command centres, among other solutions. It will also help in enabling real-time data management, alerts, and information processing to support the city’s administration.

The company is currently working on smart city projects with the government in Kanpur, Gandhinagar, Nashik and Jaipur.
