TCS China to recruit up to 5,000 in 3-5 years

In its China venture, US software company Microsoft has picked up 10% stake in TCS China.

NEW DELHI: After consolidating its China operations through a joint venture with local partners and Microsoft, Tata Consultancy Services on Friday said it will expand its operations in China and increase headcount from 500 to 5,000 in the next three to five years.
"We are looking forward to using Microsoft as a platform to effectively service the Chinese market," TCS CEO and Managing Director S Ramadorai told newspersons here.
"It (the China joint venture) is a very important step for us. It will address the local Chinese market and the MNCs operating out of China. When built to capacity, it can have 4,000-5,000 professionals in the next 3-5 years. It can be a situation of 500 to 5,000 professionals", he said.
In India, acknowledging the shortage of IT professionals, the company launched a Talent Transformation initiative, which aims to transform science graduates into software professionals after seven months of training.
"In India, we are planning to recruit 2,000-3,000 science graduates by this academic session. We are planning to recruit only science graduates with a good mathematics background," he said.
