As part of its expansion plans, Sun Microsystems India plans to spread its presence in 20 more cities by March next, a senior company official said on Tuesday.


COIMBATORE: As part of its expansion plans, Sun Microsystems India plans to spread its presence in 20 more cities by March next, a senior company official said on Tuesday.

Sudhir Nayar, Partner, Sales told reporters here that the company, which has consolidated its presence in the growing Indian Information Technology industry, has already identified the locations of Tier III cities and towns, for the next phase of growth.

Nayar, here to kick start the company's operations, with its strategic regional partner, Accel Frontline, said Jammu and Kashmir, Dehra Dun, Bhopal, Nagpur, Vizag, Mysore, Bhubhaneswar, Ranchi, Ludhiana, Ahmedabad would be some of the places where the company would spread its presence.

Rajesh Rege, Director, Sales, said Coimbatore region has immense potential of generating $1.5 billion dollars in IT and IT enabled services. Sun wanted to capture a major market share within the shortest possible time, he said.

The company would also reach out to a wider customer base in segments like education and research, government, manufacturing, besides a large base of small and medium businesses in and around Coimbatore, he added.
