Sonia ‘bunks politics’ for a while, opens Infy centre
India’s second largest software services exporter Infosys Technologies on Tuesday expanded the global education facilities at its Mysore centre.
The new wing of the Infosys Global Education Centre (GEC) in Mysore was inaugurated by UPA chairperson and Congress president Sonia Gandhi on Tuesday.
With the new facility, the company can impart training to 14,000 employees simultaneously as against 4,500 until now.
Inaugurating the facility, Mrs Gandhi said: ���This campus is nothing short of a university created by a corporate. The secret to my visit here is that I can bunk my politics for a few hours.���
The Mysore campus is spread over 337 acres and was built at an investment of Rs 2,055 crore ��� about Rs 350 crore was spent on software development blocks and Rs 1,705 crore on education and training related infrastructure.
���The Mysore campus is a stunning reminder of what Indian talent, ingenuity and hard work can accomplish,��� said Mrs Gandhi.
In 2008-09, more than 16,000 new entrants were trained at the Mysore centre. The company expect to train a similar number this fiscal too. In addition, special programmes are being conducted for students from countries such as Australia, Bhutan, China, Columbia, Japan, the UK and the US.
