As demand for domain specialisation is felt by software firms, training providers are increasingly coming up with courses to meet industry requirements.

PUNE: As demand for domain specialisation is felt by software firms, training providers are increasingly coming up with courses to meet industry requirements. Seed Infotech, a Pune-based software training company, is collaborating with companies which are strong in sectors such as banking, finance, healthcare, hospitality, retail and insurance.

“We have recently signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with UGS, a 3D and product lifecycle management (PLM) software developer for building applications. We will function as an authorised training centre and facilitate manpower for PLM. We are also planning to work with IDEAS, a software solution provider for the hospitality industry for designing courses based on revenue optimisation for the hospitality industry,” said Shrikant Rasane, executive director, Seed Infotech.

“A lot of software companies also work on applications for various banks which requires the software developers to gain a deep understanding into the banking domain,” said Ashish Phadke, VP, marketing and business development, Seed Infotech. Seed Infotech with more than 20 centres at various places across Maharashtra, including 12 in Pune. It is also setting up a new centre in Pune with the investment of Rs 10 crore.

While employees in a software firm are usually encouraged to upgrade their skills, the reality in most cases is that the employer is unwilling to invest in the skills upgrade. This reluctance is driven by the cost involved. “The upgrading of skills of employees has become a threat to the employer as the employee repostitions himself in the organisation. The employee could also leave. We train such employees and if they want, place them in another company,”said Mr Phadke.
