Security system to track and even stop vehicles
With a view to ensure safety of employees w the Chennai arm of an American IT company has installed an innovative doorstep-to-doorstep security system which helps track and even immobilise their 100 odd vehicles.

CHENNAI: With a view to ensure safety of employees who are picked up and dropped back during nights, the Chennai arm of an American IT company has installed an innovative doorstep-to-doorstep security system which helps track and even immobilise their 100 odd vehicles.
"This security system ensures that our associates (employees) can travel late at night without feeling apprehensive," Vardhaman Jain, Managing Director, Insurance and Business Process Solutions, India, of Perot Systems, said.
The system, based on the technology used in mobile phones and jointly developed by Autopay Solutions and HID Global, also earned the Texas-based IT services provider ISO certification for security standards.
Online data transfer via GSM technology and location information through Global Positioning System help identify driver and travellers, besides the vehicle's speed, he said.
The embedded voice and SMS communication makes it possible to know what is happening inside the vehicle and even overhear conversations, he said.
In addition, the system has a card scanning facility and four 'panic buttons' to be used in case of an emergency.
The Vehicle Immobilising Feature connected to a mobile phone enables to stop the vehicle in an emergency from inside the vehicle, from a central command centre or anywhere else.
As the employees would be boarded into vehicles after scanning the Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) cards, the central command centre would be able to know who all are travelling in the vehicle.
