Satyam saga: Special I-T team to probe scam

HYDERABAD: The income-tax department has set up a special team with "enough" manpower to probe the massive scam engineered by B Ramalinga Raju.

The orders for setting up the ���Raju probe��� team were passed on February 3 and the department was putting it together on Friday, said officials.

Sources said that land holdings of the Rajus and financial transactions from fiscal 2005 till date would form a significant part of the probe.

Given that the probe into the scam would require wading through a colossal mass of documents of over 320 companies floated by the Satyam promoters, figuring out the cash and bank balance of both Satyam and the Rajus over the last few years, scanning hundreds of documents pertaining to property transactions and fixed deposits receipts in various banks apart from probing the role of various individuals in the Raju family in the scam, the IT department thought it wise to depute additional manpower for this investigation.

"Scanning hundreds of files, collating, tabulating and then feeding the data on the computer cannot be handled by one person," said an official, adding that every fiscal���s assessment would be handled by an additional commissioner apart from figuring the bank balance of the IT firm on random or even some particular dates.

The department is ready with a questionnaire, revolving around Raju���s January 7 confession, to grill him once its gets access to him.
