Satyam Computer buys Caterpillar unit for $60 mn

CHENNAI: Satyam Computer Services has reached a deal to acquire engineering giant Caterpillar���s market research and customer analytics (MR & CA) arm for $60 million. As part of the agreement, Satyam will create a business unit in Chennai to provide MR & CA solutions to Caterpillar and its other customers in various industries.

The deal is part of Satyam���s strategy to foray into the growing MR & CA space. ���Through this, we will straight away gain access to Caterpillar���s IP (intellectual property) and assets in the MR & CA space.

We���ll also have an assured business coming in,��� Subu D Subramanian, director & senior vice-president ��� manufacturing, automotive and A&D business group, Satyam, told reporters in Chennai on Monday.

The company has also announced acquisition of Belgian supply chain consulting firm S&V. The combined deal value along with the Caterpillar arm stands at $100 million.
