Perot Sys to expand India business

BANGALORE: Perot Systems, the $2.5-billion IT services major having a major presence in India, is looking at expanding its infrastructure solutions activity in the country to expand its service offerings as well as tap into the market.

Perot, which started its infrastructure solutions services in India in 2004, is present in four locations. Dan Leonard, director, infrastructure solutions, Asia-Pacific, Perot, said it is looking at expanding into the data centre services and has 90% of its infrastructure portfolio operating in India.

Leonard said its differentiating factor in the marketplace has been its uniform standards of service across all its locations with India being no different. In India, Perot has a headcount of over 7,000, accounting for almost one-third of its global workforce with four centres — Bangalore, Noida, Chennai and Coimbatore. It provides application, consulting and BPO solutions. Now, Perot is also looking at offering infrastructure solutions for the domestic market and it would work in a globally integrated model. Mr Leonard said any of its client in India would get its service not only from India but it also from its locations in the US or Mexico.

However, Perot would be discrete in providing the infrastructure services as this would not mean just taking over the systems but also the people. Mr Leonard said: “We (Perot) have grown from acquiring people and we retain a high 90% of them....We will not go into a business, where our culture does not meet.”

Perot has also announced its entry into the healthcare, IT services and solutions market in India, making it the fourth country after the US, the UK and Australia. India is becoming a hub for Perot in the Asia-Pacific region and it is looking at expanding into the Philippines and China.
