NPCI plans to update BHIM
MUMBAI: Within just a few days of its launch by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Bharat Interface for Money (BHIM) app is a chartbuster, with more than 30 lakh downloads.

However, there have been some complaints from users and the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) is expected to hit the market with a new version. “We are implementing some suggestions and a new version will be launched soon,” said AP Hota, CEO, NPCI.

Complaints include not able to install the app, transfer or receive money after installation or not getting confirmation for money sent or received. There are also instances of failed transactions (debit from the sender’s account is not credited at the other end).

BHIM has reached number 1position in Google Playstore among top free Android Apps, ahead of MyJio and WhatsApp. Transactions volumes using BHIM App have started surging.

“There were 45,000 transactions worth Rs 3.7 crore on January 2,”said Hota.

Several banks have launched their own mobile apps based on Unified Payments Interface (UPI). Hota said, “BHIM’s main purpose is to provide uniform UPI experience and support those banks who have not developed any UPI app.” It is also useful for those who don’t want install separate app for their different bank accounts.
