Middle East: Big mkt for Indian software exports
Middle East is an important destination for the growing Indian software exports and the industry is planning to tap the market potential there, an expert has said.

DUBAI: Middle East is an important destination for the growing Indian software exports and the industry is planning to tap the market potential there, an expert has said.
Kamal Vachani, regional director of Electronics and Computer Software Export Promotion Council (ESC), said the Middle East is an important destination for Indian software exports. ESC is an autonomous Organisation under Department of Information Technology, Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, Government of India for the UAE and Middle East.
"Exports of computer software and IT enabled services have grown in the country," he said. Giving an account for the sector's growth plans in the Middle East, Vachani said, the industry was planning to tap the market potential in Dubai and hoped the efforts being taken by the Council would fetch investments for it from the UAE.
India's software and services exports have grown by 33 per cent in fiscal 2006, touching $17.363 billion, "IT exports is likely to maintain this growth rate in the coming years, with a growing number of Indian IT firms bagging or renewing high-value long-term service contracts," he said.
The domestic market also kept pace with exports and grew 28 per cent at $12,475 million in the last fiscal. "That the domestic market grew by over 20 per cent in 2005-06 is a clear indicator of the changing mindset of the Indian enterprises, traditionally apprehensive about outsourcing," he added.
