PARIS: Microsoft on Monday said Netherlands-based vehicle navigation systems firm TomTom had agreed to a friendly settlement of claims it infringed on the software giant's patented technology.

Microsoft filed complaints in February against TomTom in US district court and with the International Trade Commission over alleged patent infringement.

TomTom filed a counter suit earlier this month.

Microsoft said in a statement that the five-year settlement requires TomTom to pay for the use of certain of its technologies. It gave no details of the financial terms.

It said that it had been required to make no payment as part of the agreement.

TomTom declined to comment when contacted by AFP.
