IT dept conducting thorough enquiry into Satyam: CBDT head

MUMBAI: The Income-Tax Department is conducting a thorough enquiry into the Satyam Computer scam, said NB Singh, chairman, Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT).
Speaking to reporters at a foundation-laying ceremony of a building for the department in Mumbai, he said, "It will take time to complete investigation into a scam of such a big scale."
On the matter of direct income tax collections, Mr. Singh said there is a gap of Rs 20,000 crore so far this fiscal. "Tax collection is the first casualty of recession. The department is making its best efforts to meet the target," he said.
