Infy to expand Czech ops to 350 seater

A new 350-seat facility is under development to double the company’s existing capacity in the European country. The company said that the new centre will open in January ’07 and will continue to deliver business process outsourcing (BPO) services while increasing its IT services capacity for its European customers.

The original Brno facility was opened in ’04. It handles business processes such as sales order management, finance and accounts, market research and underwriting for clients across 16 European countries. It currently employs 130 people and is set to grow to 350 people by the beginning of next year. Infosys has been on an expansion drive in Europe due to the increasing adoption of outsourcing by European companies.


The company has two onshore development centres in Swindon, UK, one in Germany and nearshore operations in Mauritius to cater to customers of the region.

This expansion is also part of the company’s strategy to help customers develop their global sourcing strategies by offering customers the right location and the right skill sets at the most competitive pricing. “The debate is not about nearshore versus offshore, but about effective global sourcing — outsourcing to the right location, with the right skill, where it makes most economic sense,” said BG Srinivas, head of EMEA at Infosys.

“As European customers continue to adopt a global sourcing approach, we will continue to invest in geographies where local talent provides the specialist skills required to respond to EU regulation, language capabilities, local market understanding and cultural diversity,” he added.
