Infosys launches IT awareness event for women students

Infosys launched a two-day event 'SPARK' for women engineering students from colleges across India with an aim to enhance awareness among them about the IT industry and career prospects therein.

BANGALORE: Infosys on Friday launched a two-day event 'SPARK' for women engineering students from colleges across India with an aim to enhance awareness among them about the IT industry and career prospects therein.

SPARK, an IWIN (Infosys Women's Inclusivity Network) and Infosys's Campus Connect initiative, seeks to empower women from both urban and rural colleges.

Currently, through SPARK, Infosys has reached out to over 1,200 students across 420 colleges in several cities including Bangalore, Bhubaneshwar, Chennai, Chandigarh, Hyderabad, Mangalore, Mysore, Pune and Thiruvananthapuram.

Speaking about the programme, Infosys Technologies VP and Head-Diversity Council Geetha Kannan said, "We are keen on enhancing awareness among women about the IT industry and career prospects therein. As women increase their contribution to the IT industry, we believe that such programmes will positively impact their aspiration for long term careers."

"We wish to see more women stay in the workforce and attain leadership positions," she added.

The initiative is aimed at women students experiencing 'Infosys' through a two-day visit to the Infosys campus closest to their educational institution. The event will enable them to garner perspective on: The IT business, Training to prepare for interviews, Project approach to enhance analytical and problem-solving abilities among students.
