Infosys: Hiring to beat projections

Infosys Technologies has upped its headcount number for the current fiscal.

BANGALORE: Notwithstanding the lowered revenue guidance, Infosys Technologies has upped its headcount number for the current fiscal.

Infosys at its first quarter results here on Wednesday said it plans to hire 26,000 people for the full fiscal against 24,500 it had projected during the end of the last fiscal.

Infosys HR director TV Mohandas Pai said, “We are hiring more people globally and this will include in centres such as Manila, Mexico and Czech Republic.”

For the second quarter of this fiscal, Infosys plans hire 10,000 people and this will comprise of 75% freshers.

At the same time, the attrition rate for Infosys has remained steady at 13.7% during the first quarter of the current fiscal which saw total addition of 7,004 people with net addition being 3,730. In its BPO business, the attrition rate stood at 36.7%, showing a sequential fall of 1%.

Infosys also effected a wage hike during the quarter with offshore wages hiked in 13-15% range and onsite in 5-7% band.

Mr Pai said that the wage hikes has been affecting them and they are looking at a diversified workforce. Infosys currently has employees from over 65 nationalities.
