Indian honchos bid goodbye to MS
Mirchandani is the second high profile Indian to quit Microsoft, after Rajiv Kaul, in recent times.
Incidentally, the Singapore-based Mirchandani is the second high profile Indian to quit Microsoft in recent times after Rajiv Kaul, a director, quit the Redmond-based multinational company. When contacted by ET, both the companies refused to comment on the development.
Mirchandani’s appointment just before EMC worldwide CEO Joe Tucci’s India visit is seen as a significant move by insiders. India is one of the focus areas for EMC, which has been betting big on India for future growth, committing investments of over $250m in India by ’07.
Worldwide, EMC has been increasing its focus on emerging markets for future growth, as more than half of IT spending originates out of the US, and close to half of EMC’s total revenues are also derived from international markets.
Mirchandani, who has headed both Asia-Pacific and Asia for Microsoft successfully is considered to be the ideal candidate to head emerging markets, as Asia is a sizeable chunk of that segment, and he has treaded these waters before.
Mirchandani also has a successful track record in India, where he was instrumental in managing Microsoft’s growth, first as managing director of Microsoft Corporation (India), between 1998 and ’01, and later as the head of Microsoft’s operations in South Asia.
