India is key to new services for Perot
Perot India is looking to launch new offerings from India, says CEO of Perot Systems (APAC region).
Perot in India has a headcount of over 7,000, accounting for almost one-third of its global workforce with four centres — Bangalore, Noida, Chennai and Coimbatore . It provides application, consulting and BPO solutions.
Ms Padma Ravichander, chief executive, APAC region, Perot Systems, said: "India will continue to be a large delivery centre for us but we will further refine our offerings, processes, tools from here."
Perot India is looking to launch new offerings, innovations from India. For example, the employees of Perot India have been responsible for setting up its Filipino operations and inculcating leading industry practices. Similar initiatives are also lined up for places like Kenya and South Africa. The importance of India for Perot could be gauged from the fact that Ms Ravichander is also the MD of its global consulting and applications solutions business.
Ms Ravichander felt that it is not important how many people the company is adding but she looks at deriving higher value from each employee. ‘‘ We have to break the mould and stop worrying about revenue per employee and look at how bettering the billable rate in making customers pay more for higher value services ,’‘ she added.
She felt that such a strategy would be key to solving the attrition question as software professionals are more involved in high value work.
‘‘The intellectual capacity of Indian professionals is far greater than the services they are currently providing, ’‘she averred. Perot has been focusing on certain verticals and gaining dominance in them. In India, it has already announced its foray into the healthcare, logistics market and has recently started its consulting operations.
According to Ms Ravichander, its consulting practice would be driving its business in India, though there are certain challenges. India being a cost-sensitive market, corporates might not be willing to pay for such services, but Perot felt that with Indian enterprises becoming more global in its operations, it would look at more of a consulting-oriented approach to IT.
