IBM websphere tops application software market

CHENNAI: IBM's Webshere has been ranked as the market leader in the Application Deployment Software market in India by research firm IDC.
According to IDC Packaged Software Tracker 2006, IBM Websphere's market share stood at 28 per cent, a release from the software major said here on Tuesday.
IBM has bagged significant customers in the previous financial year and has seen maximum traction in the Telecom and Banking sectors in Websphere adoption.
With customers like, State Bank of India, Max Newyork Life, HDFC, Tata Sky and BSNL, IBM has emerged as the most preferred partner in application software, it said.
Websphere has been one of the fastest growing areas for IBM Software Group and more than 9,000 independent software vendors from across the world write applications on top of Websphere.
"The leadership ranking by IDC, positions our Websphere portfolio as a robust, integration intensive and flexible set of software solutions in the industry,' said Panini Dwivedi, Country Manager, Websphere, IBM India/South Asia.
The study noted that technology adoption has seen a substantial growth with Indian companies scaling their operations to take on competition at international levels. The domestic market for Websphere grew significantly due to increased globalization and integration activities that drove the deployment of web-enabled applications.
According to Praveen Sengar, Manager-Software and Services Research, IDC India, most organizations today depend on technology-driven innovations to ensure sustained competitive advantage.
"Given this, software implementation that brings in flexibility and faster integration becomes imperative,' he said.
In emerging markets like India where competion is becoming intense and organisations are increasingly scaling up operations, application deployment software as a category is expected to grow at an year-on-year rate of 27 per cent, he said.
