Gadget upgrades matter

MUMBAI: Surjeet Singh, CFO, Patni is a tech freak in all senses — be it while on the road, in air or in office. He drives a BMW 7 Series 745I. The car has an array of gadgets like iDrive, which is basically a monitor with turn/push buttons that enable front-seat occupants to access the menu system and fine-tune settings for climate control, audio system, navigation system and communicate with BMW Assist (an automated system to handle emergencies).

That’s just the beginning. This gizmo freak owns a IBM wide screen laptop. “I like a light weight laptop with the fastest processor and that’s why I use this one,” says he.

At home, he uses an Apple Mac book because it is very user friendly when it comes to digital pictures, movies and songs. “We have taken Apple at home so that my daughter can operate as it offers ease of use and pictures can be edited easily,” he adds.

Mr Singh also has a BlackBerry 8800 which is his third one in the last seven months. His job involves travelling frequently between India and the US and he finds the Samsung ultra thin mobile phone model (50 gms) very handy. He says, “I don’t know if they can go thinner than this but if they can I’ll buy that one too.”

Also, he stays in touch with his office through conference calls done through his Skype number. Mr Singh gets around 150 emails a day and he says that he reverts as fast as he can. He doesn’t access his emails in-flight but loves to listen to Jagjit Singh on his iPod shuffle.

The gizmo CFO likes to upgrades gadgets often. Like he changes his laptop every year. The features that he looks for while buying a new one is fast processing speed, screen, weight and a good battery.
