KOLKATA: World football body Fifa is assessing the impact of the Tech Mahindra (TechMa) takeover of Satyam as to whether it will be able to undertake its commitments as IT services provider to the 2010 soccer World Cup in South Africa.

Fifa is still monitoring the situation related to Satyam, a company which provides services of technical support to Fifa. At this stage and until we have more information, it is too early for Fifa to make any further comments on the matter, a Fifa spokeswoman told TOI in an email reply from Zurich on Thursday.

Satyams sponsorship activation programme in relation to the 2009 Fifa Confederations Cup and 2010 Fifa World Cup continues as was agreed at a meeting six months ago. There is therefore no suggestion at the current time of writing that Satyams ability to carry out its previously agreed work with Fifa is in any way affected, a Fifa spokesman had told TOI on January 6, 2009.

In November 2007, Satyam announced that it had signed up as sponsor and official IT services provider for Fifa World Cup meets in 2010 and 2014. Satyam asserted that the deal with Fifa would not suffer under new dispensation.

Everything is on track because Fifa is a valued customer of ours, Satyam sports marketing head Sridhar Maturi told TOI on Thursday. He did not elaborate whether Fifa has already been officially informed of the change in Satyams ownership.
