EMC expects Smart City and Digital India initiative to bring more business
LAS VEGAS: EMC Corp, the maker of storage equipment and software, said the Smart City and Digital India initiative is likely to add more business to the company.

Although EMC does not give a geography-wise breakup of its revenue, nearly 30% of its revenue in India comes from its work with the government, and this trend will only increase, said officials.

“India, from a worldwide standpoint, has been our fastest growing market and it will only accelerate,” said Dmitri Chen, head of speciality sales for the Asia-Pacific and Japan region.

“We have organisations within the government that are uniquely focused just on the vertical for that reason,” said Chen. “We spend a lot of time and resource against that.”

EMC was also the infrastructure provider for the Aadhaar project.

At its annual conference called EMC World in Las Vegas earlier in May, the company embraced open source, stressed on the importance of its federation of five companies, and released a host of new products all to ensure it remains relevant in the fast changing environment.

Currently, EMC has a workforce of 5,000 people in the country and caters to over a thousand customers, through system integrators such as KPIT.

“We have aggressive plans to expand in India,” said CEO David Goulden of EMC Information Infrastructure, one of the business units of EMC Corp federation, adding announcements on investments would be made early next year.

The India strategy for EMC going forward would be to expand rapidly through system integrators to add new geographies and leverage its upcoming centres-of-excellence to train students and build products, said David Webster, president of the Asia-Pacific Japan region.
