DSCI forms committee to look into data security standards

NEW DELHI: Data Security Council of India (DSCI), the independent self-regulatory body initiated by IT industry body Nasscom, has formed a steering committee to look into the standards of data security and protection.
The first meeting of the committee took place last month and sub-groups were set up to look into current security status and the interests of organisations and develop a business model for DSCI.
The 21-member DSCI steering committee will be headed by Mphasis Chairman Jerry Rao. It would also form draft model contract templates which can be used by Small and Medium Enterprises.
DSCI, which was set up in April 2007, aims to monitor and enforce privacy and data protection standards for the country's IT and BPO industries.
It also inaugurated its office in New Delhi on Monday.
Speaking at the inauguration, Nasscom President Kiran Karnik said, "India's record is good in data security compared to other countries... our goal is to achieve zero level of data breach."
He said DSCI would work with enforcement agencies to conduct awareness and training programmes.
