Crossover moves a hit with techies
A move from tech support to software testing is seen by employees as a career growth.
A move from tech support to software testing is seen by employees as a career growth for a couple of reasons. While online tech support demands people to work at nights, software testing is a day job. Besides, testers get paid more, Mr Shiva Ramani, cofounder of CSS Group and CEO of SlashSupport said. The deal between SlashSupport and RTG is a first step. Such movements among the other group companies would follow, officials said.
The CSS Group also includes a software services (Cybernet Software Systems) and a software products company Synaptris. One of the reasons why techies prefer IT majors to smaller companies is the range of activities that’s open in a bigger firm. Companies such as TCS and Xansa did not hive off their BPOs, thanks to the freedom it offers them to move employees from one function to another. That’s a freedom that smaller companies let go, in order to build domain-specific brands. HR initiatives such as this help these companies to get at least some of the advantages that bigger companies enjoy.
However, the movement is not straightforward. Mr Shiva Ramani said the scheme was open to employees who had put in atleast 18 months at SlashSupport and had gained exposure to hardware and networking concepts. Mr Prasanna Venkateswaran, Delivery Head, ReadyTestGo, said the short listed employees are put on an intensive one-month , 200-hour training programme.
Also, they will have to clear a test to get ISTQB (International Software Testing Qualifications Board) certification.
