Code for India: EdCast plans a hackathon at Rashtrapati Bhavan
BENGALURU: Professional knowledge network EdCast has planned a 12 hour ' Code for India' hackathon at the Rashtrapati Bhavan, themed around social impact innovations which will be held on March 19.

Over 1,000 individuals have registered but only 100 will be selected to participate in the event. The jury will comprise Mohandas Pai, chairman of Manipal Global Education; Sharad Sharma, cofounder of iSPIRT foundation; and Nasscom president R Chandrasekhar. "Most hackathons aren't about social impact. This is about simple things like children and teachers attending school on time or how one ensures public toilets are clean," said Sharma. "A place like Rashtrapati Bhavan highlights these issues." According to Sharma, the event will mark the beginning of several social-impact hackathons that will be held in the near future.

"Social innovation is key. Through the hackathon, we can provide the tools for Startup India to gain momentum," said Karl Mehta, founder of EdCast and Code For India. "It creates a platform for ideation and entrepreneurship."

EdCast recently partnered with HP, adding its online Learning Initiative for Entrepreneurs (HP LIFE 2.0) to its network, where it will cover a wide spectrum of topics including strategic planning, leadership, sales, funding and finance, among others.
