PUNE: VMware, a global leader in virtualization and cloud infrastructure today announced it will be expanding its operations in Pune. The company has leased space in the city to accommodate an additional 185 employees who will be a part of its R&D team. The company currently has 200 people at its Pune centre.

Headquartered in Palo Alto, California, VMWare’s R&D operations in India are second only to those at the headquarters. “VMware prides itself on the innovations its R&D teams continually deliver across the globe’” said T Srinivasan, managing director, VMware India & SAARC. “Our R&D team in Pune has delivered many innovations in the areas of networking and security, key components of our Software Defined Data Center strategy, and we are pleased to grow our operations here.”

In March, VMware CEO Pat Gelsinger announced a multi-year investment of $120 million to fund the company’s expansion in Bangalore. The company has been present in India since 2005 and has a employee base of around 2000 people.

VMware’s center in Pune has seen consistent growth through both hiring and acquisitions and has emerged as a key hub for innovation in the areas of network and security virtualization for VMware globally.
