Birla Tech bullish on hydrocarbon sector

NEW DELHI: Bullish on the growing exploration activities in the domestic hydrocarbon sector, C K Birla Group company, Birla Technical Services (BTS) is fast expanding its bouquet of latest technologies for offering to India's oil companies.

The consultancy, engineering and project management organisation, signed two technology collaborations last week, taking the number of technologies in its portfolio to nine.

"Given the increased exploration activities in the country and the hydrocarbon potential of India, we see a huge opportunity for the technologies we are bringing in the country," BTS chief B S Gilra said.

The country has witnessed a surge in exploration activities under the new exploration licensing policy (NELP). NELP-VI, the biggest round for oil and gas exploration, saw 24 deep sea blocks, mostly in the eastern coast, six shallow offshore and 25 onland being put on the blocks.

According to estimates, India has explored only 18 per cent level of its sedimentary blocks, leaving a vast opportunity for exploration and production companies.

The two new technologies being brought in by BTS include an aerogravity survey technique and an environment friendly technology for treatment of oil and gas drilling waste.

BTS already represents a number of multinational companies to offer specialised equipment, skid-mounted process packages and consumables to the oil and gas industry in India, particularly for exploration and production, gas processing and downstream oil processes.
