Alibaba enters into strategic alliance with Infomedia

China-based B2B e-commerce portal alibaba.com has entered into a strategic partnership with Infomedia India, India's largest yellow pages and special interest publishing company.

MUMBAI: China-based B2B e-commerce portal alibaba.com has entered into a strategic partnership with Infomedia India, India's largest yellow pages and special interest publishing company.

"India is a priority market for us. We are collaborating with Infomedia India Ltd, India's largest yellow pages and special interest publishing company, to provide Indian SMEs with the best solution for domestic and global trade," alibaba's Senior Director, Brian Wong, told reporters here on Tuesday.

Alibaba.com has more than 4,00,000 members in India, who are mainly trading in textiles, chemicals and auto parts, Wong said.

alibaba and Infomedia partnership will combine the power of traditional print publishing with online media and e-commerce to provide Indian SMEs with a one-stop solution for global and domestic trade.

India has more than eight million SMEs that account for nearly 40 per cent of the country's industrial output. SMEs employ around 30 million people.

According to industry estimates three million SMEs are engaged in B2B trade and around a million are in the export business. With this partnership, alibaba.com is expecting to double its Indian membership base in the near future.
