Wipro opens new centre in Texas, to raise headcount in that state

The new Texas centre will start with 150 employees and the company plans to scale this up. Wipro has 40 facilities across 23 US states, including operations in Dallas and Houston.

Wipro said it had opened a technology centre in Plano, Texas and plans to raise its headcount in the US state to over 2,000 in the next few years.

The Bengaluru-headquartered IT company currently employs about 1,400 people in Texas. The company made the announcement following a visit to its Indian headquarters by Texas Governor Greg Abbott and senior officials of the state's administration.

The new Texas centre will start with 150 employees and the company plans to scale this up. Wipro has 40 facilities across 23 US states, including operations in Dallas and Houston.


"Our technology centre in Plano is the latest milestone in our growing operations in Texas and is a testament to the local talent pool and robust support offered by the state to the technology sector," Abidali Z Neemuchwala, CEO of Wipro, said in a statement.

Wipro employs over 13,000 people in the US, over 55 per cent of whom are locals.
