BANGALORE: India's third largest software firm Wipro said it will increase the intake of graduates for its internship programme in South Africa. The programme, which enrolled 70 graduates in 2013, will admit 150 graduates in 2014.

The internship, which is offered to graduates specialising in Science and Mathematics, involves three months of theoretical training, after which the interns are interviewed for an apprentice role on live projects and mentorship for three months. The performance records are reviewed and qualifying interns get absorbed into Wipro's operations in South Africa.

The expansion comes at a time when software services firms from India are expanding in Africa. Countries such as SA, Kenya are seen as the next frontiers of growth for Indian software outsourcers.

Wipro also has an 'India Gateway' internship programme for Britain. The local internship programme is being expanded to Germany and the Nordic Region, the Bangalore based company said in a statement.
