MUMBAI: Tata Consultancy Services, India’s largest IT services company, said 200 students would graduate in FY16 with degrees specializing in business process services, a course that was designed by the company in conjunction with academia. The company plans to scale this up to 10,000 students annually.

Business process outsourcing companies have been shaking off their call centre reputation and climbing up the value chain in terms of services they provide. But they have struggled to attract talent in key sectors and have been tying up with universities to create BPO courses to get a ready stream of trained talent.
The course, which was designed by TCS, is the first of its kind 3-year full-time commerce degree with specialization in Business Process services, the Mumbai-based company said. It was initially offered through four institutes affiliated with the Bharathiar University, Coimbatore in 2013. In the first batch 150 student were enrolled. The degrees offered are B.Com and BBA with specialisation in Business Process Services.

In 2014, the course was offered at six colleges and 260 students were enrolled.

“Our goal is to collaborate with leading universities across the country and scale up the supply of graduates with BPS specialization to about 10,000 students annually to create a sustainable talent pool for the BPS industry and increase the employability quotient of students.” Ranjan Bandhopadhya, Vice President and Head, Human Resources, TCS BPS said.

The course includes 600 hours of learning designed by TCS in areas such as F&A, Banking, Capital Markets, Retail, and Insurance along with modules on managing Business Process Services, the company said in a statement.
