The man behind BellTrox

BellTrox is an IT firm in Delhi, which recently came into the limelight on allegations of spying-for-hire.

A report by Citizen Lab and an exclusive story by Reuters unearthed that the Delhi based firm is behind a group of hackers - known as Dark Basin - who have reportedly spied on over 10,000 email accounts over several years.

There has been no report on who hired the firm, but BellTrox is suspected to have spied on a wide range of people, from European officials to private investors like KKR.

Behind the whole hacker for hire operation seems to be run by a man called Sumit Gupta, who - according to sources - would challenge new BellTrox recruits to breach firewalls and find loopholes.

Ever since the operation was exposed, the company’s website has been taken down. BellTrox’s head, Gupta, has not been charged with any wrongdoing, as of now; but, he already has a hacking charge from 2015, when he was in the United States.
